Davey Grant isn’t thinking about stepping away from the fight game anytime soon.
The 40-year-old bantamweight (16-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) continued his late-career surge with a strong performance at UFC Vegas 116 on Saturday, earning a unanimous decision win over Adrian Luna Martinetti. The bout also secured Fight of the Night honors, adding a $100,000 bonus to Grant’s latest victory.
Now with three wins in his last four appearances, the British veteran is pushing back against the idea that retirement is imminent. Speaking Monday on The Ariel Helwani Show, Grant made it clear he still feels competitive among the division’s elite and has no intention of slowing down.
“So, I mean, I've always said I'm not really going to put a number on it because I just don't know,” Grant said. “It's how I feel. And I feel like I'm still getting better. I feel like I can have it with any single bantamweight in the world, and I'll keep fighting as long as I'm healthy, I'm enjoying it.”
Grant emphasized that his decision will ultimately come down to his physical condition and passion for the sport rather than age alone.
“There's no risk, and yeah, as long as I still feel like I can compete and get better. It's just…I do not want this to end,” he said. “It's going to, we know that, but I do not want it to end anytime soon. I just want to just keep riding the wave, just getting these experiences, and long may it continue.”
Despite being one of the older fighters in the bantamweight division, Grant believes he still has time before any noticeable decline begins.
“I think I've easily got two years still before I'm going to start hitting a decline,” he said. “That's how I feel in myself. So then we'll take it each year as it comes.”
