One of the most dominant champions in UFC history is set to be inducted in the promotion’s Hall of Fame later this year.

At UFC 249, it was announced that former UFC welterweight and middleweight king Georges St-Pierre will be inducted into Modern Wing as part of the Hall of Fame class of 2020.

The Modern Wing is for fighters who turned professional on or after 17 November, 2000 and fighters must be retired for at least one year to be eligible. “GSP” will be joining the likes of Ronda Rousey, Michael Bisping, Forrest Griffin and former welterweight foe B.J. Penn.

As yet, the date of the UFC’s Hall of Fame ceremony has not been announced due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“Georges St-Pierre is a pioneer of Canadian MMA who helped build the sport globally,” UFC President Dana White said in the official press release. “He is the most famous athlete to ever come out of Canada and one of the greatest martial artists of all-time.

“We’re proud to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame Class of 2020.”

St-Pierre is one of the few fighters to have ever held UFC gold in two different weight classes. In his second reign as UFC welterweight champion, he defended that title nine times before taking a break from the sport in 2013.

During his time in MMA, GSP holds wins over top names such as Matt Hughes (x2), B.J. Penn (x2), Michael Bisping, Nick Diaz, Jake Shields, Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks, Sean Sherk and Josh Koscheck (x2).
